The energetic rocker "Southbound" comes from the legendary "The Boys Are Back in Town" hit-makers Thin Lizzy, who carved out a niche in the rock canon for fusing hard rock with Celtic elements. This high-octane song about tumbling into a point in your life that needs a serious change of direction ("Hey, you're not getting any younger / The wild west has already been won / Northern nights are growing colder / And the old eastern ways are gone") which was included on the band's 1977 album Bad Reputation, perfectly encapsulates the rebellious spirit and distinctive sound of Thin Lizzy. Bad Reputation made it to number four on the UK Albums Chart, in spite of its perceived conflict with the burgeoning punk rock sound of the day. The album single "Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)" finished at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart in September 1977 and was later covered by The Smashing Pumpkins covered at several live performances.
