Despite having had a relatively short career, Long Beach natives Sublime achieved cult status thanks to their infectious blend of reggae, rock, ska-punk, and beyond. After making waves with their studio debut 40oz. to Freedom (1992), the group signed a distribution deal with MCA Records and delivered their second album, Robbin' the Hood, in 1994. However, the band's steady rise to stardom was cut short by the death of frontman Brad Nowell, who passed away from a heroin overdose in May 1996, just two months before the release of their critically acclaimed self-titled LP. Thanks to the popularity of singles like "What I Got," "Santeria," and "Wrong Way," the album proved hugely successful, reaching Number 13 on the Billboard 200 and Number 5 on the US Top Catalog Albums chart. It also included the sun-soaked reggae track "Get Ready," which was largely based on Frankie Paul's 1987 hit of the same name and featured a sample of KRS-One's "Speech." Even though it wasn't officially released as a single, "Get Ready" remains a fan favorite among Sublime's following.
