"#41" is the fifth track from Dave Matthews Band's 1996 sophomore album Crash. Clocking in at over six and a half minutes, this freewheeling jazz-fusion jam fuses knotty, propulsive post-rock guitars with bursts of saxophone and a flute bridge from LeRoi Moore while vocals from mastermind David John Matthews take the lead. #41," named for its status as the forty-first song the band wrote together, describes the feeling of being let down by someone. That someone here pertains to Dave Matthews Band's former manager Ross Hoffman, who owned rights to several of their songs in the early 1990s but was ousted due to creative differences. Selling seven million copies by March 2000, Crash was a resounding success for Dave Matthews Band—their best-selling LP, in fact—propelled by its title track, Too Much and "So Much to Say," which earned the band the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
